Mid Calder Brownies raise £330 for bear rescue!
Well done to the 3rd Mid Calder Brownies who raised more than £300 for the Five Sisters Zoo Bear Appeal!
Last year, we reported that the West Calder zoo had been backed by celebrities – such as Chantelle Houghton and Kate Ford – in its bid to raise £100,000 to rescue three former circus bears from Belgium.
The local Brownie group regularly raise cash for charities and decided to help the bear cause in their latest project.
The troop of 20, aged between seven and ten, held a sponsored karaoke night, raising an impressive £330.
Brown Owl of the 3rd Mid Calder Brownies, Donna White, was proud of the girls for their hard work.
She said: “We had booked a night to go to the zoo to see all the good things it was doing for conservation and we were so impressed that we decided that would be our next fundraising project.
“The Brownies raised the money by doing a sponsored karaoke night which they all took part in and really enjoyed.
“They are a very talented bunch of Brownies and love singing.”
“We already sponsor a dog at the Canine Defence League and the girls enjoy hearing about Jacob our very own rescue dog.
“We have raised money for lots of causes over the last few years; one being for Water Aid where we put on our own concert for parents, which was a great success.
“We are very excited about the bears coming to the zoo and can't wait to welcome them.”
Lesley Couper, who is in charge of marketing and visitor services at Five Sisters Zoo, said: “We are so grateful to the local community for the support that they have shown to date and look forward to welcoming the brownies to the Zoo once the bears have arrived and settled in.”
